تستقبل السعودية في يوم الإثنين 2 أغسطس 2027، أول كسوف كلي للشمس يمر فوق أراضيها منذ عام 1371هـ (1952) في حدث فلكي استثنائي يعيد إلى الأذهان ما عُرف بـ«سنة الظلمة»، حين تحول النهار إلى ظلام دامس وظهرت النجوم في وضح النهار بعد احتجاب قرص الشمس بالكامل.

وأوضح رئيس الجمعية الفلكية بجدة المهندس ماجد أبو زاهرة أن مسار الكسوف الكلي يبدأ من ساحل البحر الأحمر، ويمر عبر عدد من مدن ومحافظات غربي وجنوب غربي المملكة أبرزها مكة المكرمة، وجدة، والطائف، والباحة، والقنفذة، وخميس مشيط، وجازان، ونجران، فيما ستشهد بقية المناطق كسوفًا جزئيًا بدرجات متفاوتة.

وأشار إلى أن الظاهرة ستحول ضوء النهار إلى ما يشبه الشفق، مع انخفاض ملحوظ في شدة الإضاءة ودرجات الحرارة، وظهور الهالة الشمسية وبعض النجوم والكواكب، مؤكدًا أن الكسوف يمثل فرصة علمية نادرة، ومن المتوقع أن يستقطب علماء الفلك والمصورين وهواة الرصد من مختلف أنحاء العالم.

خبير الطقس والمناخ الدكتور خالد الزعاق اوضح أن مدة الكسوف الكلي ستصل في بعض المواقع إلى نحو 5 دقائق و55 ثانية، وهي من أطول مدد الكسوف الكلي المسجلة في المنطقة خلال القرن الحادي والعشرين، كما ستتيح الظاهرة رصد الإكليل الشمسي وظاهرتي «خاتم الألماس» و«خرزات بيلي».

ويستعيد الحدث ذكرى «سنة الظلمة»، التي ما زالت حاضرة في ذاكرة كثير من كبار السن.

ويقول أحمد آل علي، الذي كان في الثامنة من عمره آنذاك، إن الظلام المفاجئ أثار خوفًا واسعًا بين الناس، قبل أن تصبح تلك الحادثة معروفة باسم «سنة الظلمة».

وحذرت وزارة الصحة من النظر مباشرة إلى الشمس أثناء الكسوف دون نظارات مخصصة ومعتمدة، مؤكدة أن ذلك قد يسبب تلفًا دائمًا في شبكية العين، وأن النظارات الشمسية العادية أو الوسائل غير المخصصة لا توفر الحماية اللازمة.

Saudi Arabia will witness its first total solar eclipse on Monday, August 2, 2027, since the year 1371 AH (1952) in an extraordinary astronomical event that recalls what was known as the "Year of Darkness," when day turned into complete darkness and stars appeared in broad daylight after the sun was completely obscured.

The head of the Astronomical Society in Jeddah, Engineer Majid Abu Zahra, explained that the path of the total eclipse begins from the Red Sea coast and passes through several cities and provinces in the western and southwestern regions of the Kingdom, most notably Mecca, Jeddah, Taif, Al-Baha, Al-Qunfudhah, Khamis Mushait, Jazan, and Najran, while the rest of the regions will witness a partial eclipse to varying degrees.

He pointed out that the phenomenon will turn daylight into something resembling twilight, with a noticeable decrease in light intensity and temperatures, and the appearance of the solar corona along with some stars and planets, emphasizing that the eclipse represents a rare scientific opportunity, and it is expected to attract astronomers, photographers, and observation enthusiasts from around the world.

Weather and climate expert Dr. Khalid Al-Zaqaq explained that the duration of the total eclipse will reach about 5 minutes and 55 seconds in some locations, making it one of the longest recorded durations of total eclipses in the region during the 21st century. The phenomenon will also allow for the observation of the solar corona and the phenomena of the "diamond ring" and "Baily's beads."

The event brings back memories of the "Year of Darkness," which is still present in the memories of many elderly people.

Ahmed Al-Ali, who was eight years old at the time, recalls that the sudden darkness caused widespread fear among people before that incident became known as the "Year of Darkness."

The Ministry of Health has warned against looking directly at the sun during the eclipse without specialized and certified glasses, confirming that this could cause permanent damage to the retina, and that regular sunglasses or unapproved means do not provide the necessary protection.
