ودخل "أسود التيرانغا" اللقاء بقوة كبيرة، حيث افتتح هامادو ديارا التسجيل مبكراً في الدقيقة الرابعة، قبل أن تتعقد مهمة المنتخب العراقي بعد تلقي أحد لاعبيه بطاقة حمراء مباشرة في الدقيقة 13، ليكمل المباراة بـ10 لاعبين.

ورغم انتهاء الشوط الأول بتقدم سنغالي بهدف وحيد، فإن المنتخب الأفريقي فرض سيطرته المطلقة بعد الاستراحة، ونجح في مضاعفة النتيجة عبر إسماعيلا سار في الدقيقة 56. وبعد دقائق قليلة، خطف البديل باب غي الأضواء بتسجيله هدفين متتاليين في الدقيقتين 59 و71، مؤكداً التفوق السنغالي الكبير.

واختتم إيلمان نداي مهرجان الأهداف في الدقيقة 82، ليمنح السنغال انتصاراً عريضاً بخماسية نظيفة، هي واحدة من أكبر النتائج المسجلة في البطولة حتى الآن.
