هناك رجالٌ يرحلون بأجسادهم، لكن آثارهم تبقى شاهدة على عطائهم، ومن هؤلاء الراحل بكر بن عبدالله بن بكر، الذي ارتبط اسمه بمسيرة جامعة الملك فهد للبترول والمعادن، وأسهم في صناعة مكانتها الأكاديمية، وترك بصمة لا تُنسى في نفوس كل من عمل معه.
وأنا في طريقي إلى المنطقة الشرقية للمشاركة في الصلاة عليه، عادت بي الذاكرة إلى أكثر من خمسين عامًا، منذ أن التقيته عام 1394هـ عندما كنت متقدمًا لوظيفة معيد في كلية البترول والمعادن، وكان حينها عميدًا للكلية. ومنذ ذلك التاريخ بدأت رحلة علم وعمل امتدت سنوات طويلة، توثقت خلالها علاقتي به، وتشرفت بالعمل معه في عدد من المواقع القيادية داخل الجامعة.
لم يكن الراحل إداريًا ناجحًا فحسب، بل كان مدرسة في القيادة. جمع بين الحزم والإنسانية، وآمن بالشورى، واحترم الرأي الآخر، وكان يحرص على أن يكون القرار ثمرة نقاش وتوافق، واضعًا مصلحة الجامعة فوق كل اعتبار.
ومن أبرز ما تميز به إيمانه بأن الطالب هو محور العملية التعليمية، فكان قريبًا من طلابه، يستمع إليهم، ويتابع آراءهم وملاحظاتهم، ويحرص على تحويل كثير منها إلى قرارات تسهم في تطوير الجامعة وتعزيز رسالتها.
ولمست فيه وفاءً استثنائيًا لجامعة الملك فهد للبترول والمعادن؛ فقد كرّس حياته لخدمتها، وأسهم برؤية استراتيجية في بناء منظومتها الأكاديمية والإدارية، حتى أصبحت واحدة من الجامعات الرائدة. ومن وجهة نظري، فإنه كان صاحب الدور الأكبر في ترسيخ مكانتها بعد تحويلها من كلية إلى جامعة.
كان -رحمه الله- قائدًا بعيد النظر، متواضعًا في تعامله، نبيلًا في أخلاقه، محبًا لوطنه، حتى إن كل من عمل معه كان يشعر بأنه الأقرب إليه، وهي ميزة لا يمتلكها إلا أصحاب النفوس الكبيرة.
هذه الكلمات ليست سوى شيء يسير من حق رجلٍ أعطى جامعته وطلابه ووطنه بإخلاص، وستظل سيرته حاضرة في ذاكرة من عرفوه وعملوا معه.
رحم الله بكر بن عبدالله بن بكر، وغفر له، وأسكنه الفردوس الأعلى، وجزاه خير الجزاء على ما قدّم لوطنه وجامعته وطلابه، ﴿إِنَّا لِلَّهِ وَإِنَّا إِلَيْهِ رَاجِعُونَ﴾.
There are men who depart with their bodies, but their legacies remain as a testament to their contributions. Among these is the late Bakr bin Abdullah bin Bakr, whose name is associated with the journey of King Fahd University of Petroleum and Minerals, and who contributed to establishing its academic stature, leaving an unforgettable mark on the hearts of all who worked with him.
As I made my way to the Eastern Province to participate in his funeral prayer, my memory took me back more than fifty years, to when I first met him in 1394 AH while I was applying for a teaching assistant position at the College of Petroleum and Minerals, where he was then the dean. Since that time, a long journey of knowledge and work began, during which my relationship with him deepened, and I had the honor of working with him in several leadership positions within the university.
The late Bakr was not only a successful administrator but also a school of leadership. He combined firmness with humanity, believed in consultation, respected differing opinions, and was keen to ensure that decisions were the result of discussion and consensus, placing the interests of the university above all else.
One of his most notable traits was his belief that the student is at the center of the educational process. He was close to his students, listened to them, followed up on their opinions and observations, and was keen to turn many of them into decisions that contributed to the development of the university and the enhancement of its mission.
I witnessed in him an exceptional loyalty to King Fahd University of Petroleum and Minerals; he dedicated his life to serving it and contributed with a strategic vision to building its academic and administrative system, until it became one of the leading universities. In my view, he played the most significant role in solidifying its status after it was transformed from a college into a university.
He was, may God have mercy on him, a visionary leader, humble in his dealings, noble in his morals, and deeply patriotic, such that everyone who worked with him felt he was the closest to them—a trait possessed only by those with great souls.
These words are but a small tribute to a man who selflessly gave to his university, his students, and his country, and his legacy will remain alive in the memory of those who knew him and worked with him.
May God have mercy on Bakr bin Abdullah bin Bakr, forgive him, grant him the highest paradise, and reward him abundantly for what he offered to his country, his university, and his students. ﴿Indeed, we belong to God, and indeed, to Him we will return﴾.
